Malware infiltrates PNB website
A melicious software (malware) infiltrated the website of Punjab National Bank (PNB) last weekend, causing damage to computers of many of the customers who clicked on a hyperlink at the bottom of the homepage (www.pnbindia.com) between January 9 and January 11. The malicious script loader code was identified as VirTool: WinNT/Rootkit.BV and TrojanDownloader: Win32/Bredolab.X. PNB got rid of the virus on January 12 after an Ahmedabad-based IT security company Net-Square wrote to the bank about it. While PNB officials in New Delhi could not be contacted despite repeated attempts, banks Regional Manager V P Goswami said he was not aware about the incident. Saumil Shah, CEO of Net-Square, said he had reported the incident on January 9, when one of his employees opened the website to check the account his father holds with the bank. |
